Hackers are getting more sophisticated every day, and the ways they lure you to give them access to your computer are downright devious.  It is important that all employees are aware of these simple rules that will help prevent intruders from accessing your computer network.

Train your employees  is key to an effective Business Cyber-Security Plan

Always remember, hackers cannot gain access to your computers unless someone invites them in.  An up to date and functioning anti-virus software is the most important requirement for keeping your business safe from predators.   Make sure anti-virus is installed, enabled, and current on all devices. Periodic monitoring should be performed to make sure nothing has changed once the software was enabled.

The next step is training , here are the rules to share with all employees:

  • Do not click links in emails from senders that you don’t know. It is NEVER going to lead you to a “Grand Prize.”  If it seems too good to be true, it is.
  • When you are browsing the internet, do not click on pop up links that you have not requested. The pop-up’s sole purpose is to make you click on them by looking important or enticing. Luckily, your browser should have a simple way to disable most pop-ups before they even appear.  Disabling pop-up's is a good idea.
  • If you are asked to click a link in an email, don’t! Instead, open the web browser and manually type the website that it claims to be directing you to.  Sure, it’s extra work, but it is better than falling for a hacker’s scam.
  • Lock your computer when not in use. Follow the same procedure at home if you access company resources remotely– even if you’ll only be away for five minutes. This will protect your computer at home and your company information as well.

Although it is concerning to know there are dishonest people out there trying desperately to trick you and your employees, if you follow these tips, you will be preventing  most threats and protecting  your company from online intruders.

Following these simple rules can also help prevent you from experiencing a security breach.  To learn more about how IntelliSuite IT Solutions can protect your business from cyber threats, call us at 877-843-5767, or visit us online at www.intellisuite.com.
